THE MARKER-HOFF GROUP RECEIVES COMPASSIONATE FRIENDS AWARD

The Legal Industry's Only Company To Receive This Award

November 2001 - Houston, TX – The Marker-Hoff Group, the leader in medical records retrieval and other litigation support services, was recently honored by The Compassionate Friends as a recipient of the Compassionate Employer Recognition award.

The Compassionate Friends, the nation's largest self-help bereavement support organization, presented the award on October 30. A group of Marker-Hoff employees accepted the award after their support of co-worker Judy Day, whose son died last year, nearly three weeks after a car accident.

Ms. Day nominated The Marker-Hoff Group for the national recognition, noting a blood drive from co-workers that raised 37 pints of blood. There was also a chili cook-off to defray ICU costs and a prayer circle in the lunchroom every day. Virtually the entire company attended the funeral. "I was allowed to stay home until I felt ready to come back," recalls Day. "The support I received from the company and my co-workers was overwhelming."

"As an employer, we have always valued and treated our employees well," said Daniel Marker, chief financial officer of The Marker-Hoff Group, "but what was really special was the way our employees rallied around and supported Judy throughout this difficult time."

"An award like this speaks volumes about this company," added Don Hoff, president of The Marker-Hoff Group. "The way our employees are treated is a core belief we have as owners and managers. Getting recognition from the Compassionate Friends is an honor that I am very proud of."

The criteria for Compassionate Employer Recognition are:
* Corporate policies that reflect a compassionate attitude toward bereaved parents and siblings.
* Personal support extended by management team towards bereaved parents and siblings on their staff.
* Caring attitudes demonstrated by employer's entire workforce.
* Flexibility in work assignments and evaluation of job performance during the stress and personal pain associated with the death of a child.
* All other acts of compassion that bereaved parents and siblings will forever remember.

Twenty-four companies from across the United States are being recognized for acts of compassion in the way they helped employees following the death of a child or sibling. Last year, the first year for the award, only three companies were recognized by their employees for the award.

"We are pleased that so many companies were nominated for Compassionate Employer Recognition this year," said Patricia Loder, executive director of The Compassionate Friends. "It means there are more companies meeting the needs of the bereaved. Our goal is that all companies, no matter their size, understand that when a child dies, the parents, siblings and grandparents who work for them need special consideration and caring."

"Good employees are the most important asset that a company can have," stated Sharon Walker, chief operating officer for The Marker-Hoff Group. "We recognize that work is a place where people spend a large portion of their lives and is in many ways, an extension of their family. The presentation was a very touching moment for all of us and I don't think there was a dry eye in the room."

"I am proud to see my company carry on a tradition that is near and dear to me," stated Marlene Marker, chairwomen for The Marker-Hoff Group. "This company was built on great employees doing great things for one another."
